Abstract
The purpose of the study was to compare the perception between preceptors and general nurses on the preceptor¡¯s role performance.
Survey was done using self-reported questionnaire by Baek(1999) from Sep.10, 2004 to Oct. 15. 2004. The subject of this study were 60 preceptors and 60 general nurses who had worked more than 3 years from three university hospitals in Daegu area.
Statistical analysis included frequency, mean, standard deviation, x2-test, t-test, ANOVA. The data in this study were analyzed by the SPSS(WIN 11.0 program).
The results were as follows
1. General characteristics between the two groups had homogeneity.
2. There was no significant difference between Preceptor¡¯s perception on role performance (score 2.93) and general nurse¡¯s perception on role performance (score 289).
3. Preceptor¡¯s perception on role performance had significant difference according to number of new preceptees. There was no significant difference among general nurse¡¯s perception on role performance.
In conclusion, there was no different perception on preceptor¡¯s role performance between the two groups. Preceptors were perceived herself¡¯s role significance, but have low role performance because of stress, overloaded work, inadequate reward.
Therefore, it needs that training programs for control of stress and effective job arrangement with adequate reward to improve the role performance of preceptor. Also it is necessary to develop teaching skills and evaluation program for preceptor.
